Chongkran Roy or Changkran Roy is one of the last remaining evergreen forests near Siem Reap, another community managed ecotourism site located just about 70km from Siem Reap city as a crow flight and currently the only reliable site for Coral-billed Ground-Cuckoo in Southeast Asia. Recently, birding and photographing at this site have been very productive with good feedbacks from birders and photographers because of the habituation-hides and the commitment of the community itself. It is a great escape into the Cambodian countryside as you will be staying overnight in a forest cottage surrounded by forest areas and close to a waterfall. This is a truly wonderful way to experience the natural world and chance to enjoy bird watching along the forest paths and bird hides.
The reserve supports many avian species, including: Bar-bellied Pitta, Oriental Bay Owl, Blyth's Frogmouth, Coral-billed Ground-cuckoo, Scaly-breasted Partridge, Silver-breasted Broadbill, Common Green Magpie, Himalayan Night-heron, etc. See Changkran Roy full bird checklist here
Lunch at the Camp and we will spend our afternoon at the bird hide, followed by a night walk for the Oriental Bay-Owl. Overnight in a forest cottage by the stream.
Day 2: We will have 2 options 1). Go to the bird hide to see more key species with breakfast in the hide and, 2). We will have breakfast on our walk and will hear calls from birds singing in the canopy, perhaps your vivid pleasant memories of this wonderful site. Returning to camp for lunch before spending a few hours around the basecamp waterfall on the hunt for butterflies, insects, birds, and visiting the village.
The tour will finish at the site at about 2.00pm. Your guide and driver will either take you back to your hotel or to another destination of your choice in the town arriving around 4.00pm.
